Indonesia’s Nova Widianto has officially ended his three-year tenure with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the national team’s most successful coaches.
His greatest achievement came in 2025 when he guided Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei to Malaysia’s first-ever mixed doubles world title at the BWF World Championships in Paris.
Throughout his time with BAM, Nova successfully steered the mixed doubles department through partnership changes, temporary splits and injury setbacks, helping the discipline remain one of Malaysia’s strongest despite challenging periods for the singles squads.
Having joined BAM in 2023, the 48-year-old expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be part of Malaysian badminton.
“I would like to thank BAM for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Malaysian badminton family. It has been a privilege to work with the players, coaches and support staff, and I am grateful for all the support I received during my time in Malaysia. I wish everyone at BAM continued success in the future,” said Nova.
BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz also paid tribute to Nova’s contributions, praising his dedication and professionalism.
He described the historic world title won by Tang Jie and Ee Wei as a proud milestone for Malaysian badminton and thanked Nova for his commitment to developing the mixed doubles programme.
Nova officially ends his stint with BAM today and will return to Indonesia. While BAM confirmed his departure, the association did not disclose the reason behind his exit.
