Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has praised the passionate support of the nation’s fans, describing them as the team’s “12th man” ahead of the World Cup Round of 32 clash against Cape Verde in Miami.

Thousands of Argentine supporters have descended on the Florida city, where captain Lionel Messi has been based since joining Inter Miami in 2023. With around 30,000 Argentines already living in southern Florida, estimates suggest nearly 60,000 Albiceleste fans could be inside the stadium for the knockout encounter.
Scaloni welcomed the overwhelming support, saying it provides an emotional lift rather than extra pressure.
“Their support is something that I love,” Scaloni said.
“We feel their support, they strengthen us and it’s not extra pressure for us. I hope they enjoy watching their team and hopefully we can give them something to celebrate.”
The Argentina boss believes the bond between the players and supporters is one of the team’s greatest strengths.
“Our fans are our 12th player. Our players grew up supporting Argentina, and now they’re the ones wearing this shirt. I think that says a lot about the character of this team.”
Miami painted sky blue and white
The streets of Miami were awash with Argentina’s famous sky blue and white colours as hundreds of fans gathered for a traditional “Banderazo” pep rally ahead of the match.
Supporters filled a beachside park with flags and banners featuring Messi and the late Diego Maradona, while barbecues served traditional Argentine beef as drums, music and chants created a carnival atmosphere. Even after an early thunderstorm, fans continued celebrating, with many singing songs in honour of the world champions.
While Scaloni warned his players not to underestimate surprise package Cape Verde, many supporters were confident Argentina would progress comfortably.
“Argentina is going to win 3-0 or 2-0,” fan Geronimo Guenen predicted.
“This team has everything it needs to win. Messi is in great form, just as he has been throughout his career, and above all, we can compete with anyone.”
Backed by a sea of travelling supporters, Argentina will be hoping their “12th man” can inspire them as they continue their quest to successfully defend the World Cup title.
